Call for Papers

Department of Theory and Practice of the English Language will hold its 3nd Annual International Conference on linguistics and humanities “Contrastive Studies of Languages and Cultures”, which is due to take place at Minsk State Linguistic University оn October 24-25, 2017.

PROBLEMS FOR DISCUSSION

  • Text and discourse in the contrastive perspective
  • A word in different languages and cultures
  • Grammar units and categories in the contrastive aspect
  • Contrastive linguistics and questions of translation
  • Models of verbal behavior in different types of discourse
  • Contrastive research and automatic text processing
  • Modern literature in the comparative paradigm

Submission Guidelines

Participants are expected to send via e-mail a filled in application form (see Appendix 1) and their papers as 1 file to the address indicated above until  October 1, 2017.

The name of the file should contain the author’s name and the institution he/she represents, e.g. “Ivanov MSLU.doc”.

In follow-up of the conference we are planning to publish a collection of articles.

Papers should be submitted in Russian, Belarusian or English as a Microsoft Word document (MS Word 7.0). The paper should comprise minimum 3 single-spaced pages in Times New Roman 14pt font. All margins – 2 cm. Paragraph indention – 1 cm. Widow line is not allowed.

The author’s first name and initials as well as the abbreviation of the institution they represent should be left-justified and typeset in bold capital letters with no full-stop at the end of the line.

After a free space there should be a centre-justified title of the paper, typeset in bold capital letters.

After a free space starts fully-justified text of the paper. Hyphenation is automatic.

The pages of hard copies which are to be submitted after the conference, should be numbered in pencil.

All formulae and symbols should be typeset in MS Equation (a part of MS Word).

Tables and images should be in black and white.

Examples in the text in all languages should be italicized , the meanings of words should be typeset in upright font and put into single quotes, e.g. der Tisch ‘the table’.

References should follow the text as a list of quotations and should be numbered in the order they are mentioned in the text.

In the text in square brackets there should be the number of the source and after a comma  - the number of the page.

Papers should consist of the introduction; the body, including graphs and other supporting data (if necessary); the final part with succinct conclusions.

The texts should be closely read by authors; all the quotes should correspond to the sources.

Authors should also submit:

  • an annotation placed after the title before the text of the paper (100-150 words)
  • an application form filled in and sent as a separate file
